Albert Whitman & Company, founded in 1919, is celebrating its 85th year as an independent publisher of childrens books. We are well known for our classic series, The Boxcar Children Mysteries. Beginning in the sixties and seventies, under the editorial leadership of Caroline Rubin, Albert Whitman & Company became a leader in publishing books that responded to our worlds cultural diversity and to the special needs and concerns of children and their families. Today, we are still known for books that address timely topics such as divorce, disability, bullying, and interracial families. Many of these stories are published as Concept Books and librarians constantly tell us that Albert Whitman is the first place they turn to for such titles. In addition, Albert Whitmans novels for middle-grade readers, picture books, and nonfiction titles include many award winners and highly praised books for children ages 2 to 12. In the new millennium, Albert Whitman & Company plans to continue to provide good books for children.
