Because they stand erect when presented at story time, it is much easier for children to see a hardcover than a floppy paperback.Hardcovers, with spines large enough for children to identify, are inviting when lined up on a bookshelf. Paperbacks, which often topple over on the shelf, are frequently found stacked upon one another or in a bin, less accessible to the child.
