The Impermanent Press in Something Directory
The Permanent Press was conceived by a pair of leatherbound book lovers (B. Wright Bacque and Javier K. Caneeda II) and became their illegitimate brainchild. Let this serve as a copyright warning to those who would reproduce without protection. Under this imprint, a number of non-existent but real-sounding books were published, including: From our HiBrowser Books division: Diaria Philosopheces, by Gnome Chomsky, From our Shakespeareology division: Bard to Tears, by Toby Ornotoby , From our Get Out of Town division: Europe on 24 Hours a Day, by Bambi Dextrous , From our Business Books division: The One-Minute Dictator, Bob Appetit , From our Science Fiction division: Kiss Uranus Goodbye, by L. Ron Hubbub , From our Feminist division: End Me Your Leers: The WoManifesto, by Rose Bloomoff , From our Masculinist division: Dances with Women Who Run with the Wolves, by Freida Stare , From our Go Help Yourself division: When Good People Write Bad Checks, by Perry Noya , 1997 brought about a major crisis, as the owner and publisher realized that although the name The Permanent Press was clever when first chosen, it was just so damn clever that there were now over a dozen small presses in the U.S. using the same (now less-than-clever) name. As Chief Editor T. Earl Gray quipped, Imitation is the sincerest form of confusion.
