A four season bookstore, Port In A Storm has established itself as a vigorous, independent shop, known for its wide selection of titles, books by Maine writers, and author programs. The store has twice been featured in Yankee Magazine. Every year, thousands of booklovers reach Port to browse and shop among its enticing shelves. We are located on beautiful Mount Desert Island - home to Acadia National Park - in the village of Somesville on route 102. Approximately one hour from Bangor and about 15 miles from Ellsworth, the store perches on picturesque Somes Cove. Though we have a wide selection of books in all categories, we continue to specialize in books about Maine and by Maine authors. We are especially proud of our section for children, middle readers, and young adult readers. Come and visit us on the waters edge at Somes Cove in Somesville, Maine, on Mount Desert Island, and browse and linger over the fine selection of books, music, greeting cards, journals, note-cards, and Cranes personalized stationery - all gathered and arranged in a completely renovated 19th century chandlery where Atlantic sailing ships used to put in for supplies. Mount Desert Island history and our current stock make Port In A Storm a special destination for book lovers who also enjoy coastal panoramas. We are located on Somes Cove at the head of Somes Sound, the only natural fjord on the eastern seaboard.
