It was originally created as a special order business that catered to schools, libraries and individuals with unusual book-buying needs. While special-ordering dog books for some clients, Charlene discovered that people who wanted high quality books about their dogs found them difficult (impossible!) to find. With the encouragement of her dog-loving customers, she started selling books at dog shows in the Pacific Northwest. The next step was the development of this secure on-line catalog, which features over 2,000 books and products. By the late 1980s, Charlenes husband Larry joined the operation as the company CEO. Charlenes strength, after all, was in MARKETING! As the business expanded, it outgrew its original quarters and in 1992, looking for a smaller town and lots of warehouse space, DBS and the Woodward family moved from Seattle to Wenatchee, The Apple Capital of the World, in central Washington.
