Davro Boomerangs (Scotland) in Something Directory

Davro began life in the 1960s when a talented ex-soldier, Howard Baker, started making laminated Ash boomerangs in Yorkshire under the Bakwood label. Following an appearance on Blue Peter, David and Veronica (Ronnie) Jones from Kent approached him to supply them with boomerangs and Davro (from DAVid and ROnnie) was born. Howard was joined by his nephew Adrian Green who, when Howard died, moved production to the North of Scotland. In 1999 David and Ronnie retired and sold the business to Richard Ogilvy who also took over the boomerang manufacturing from Adrian, moving it to Forres. -shire. Richard first made boomerangs for his children in the 1980s inspired by a book written by Herb Smith, then the British world record holder for the longest outward throw of a boomerang which successfully returns. A replica of this boomerang, made and signed by Herb Smith, forms part of the Davro Boomerang collection which can be seen at Forres. Pictured on the left is Richard Oglivy, the principle craftsman of Davro Boomerangs. The top photograph shows a view of the complex containing the workshop. The lower photograph shows a felled tree, selected to be turned into boomerangs.
