In 1985 Bit of Britain was formed by a veterinarian in North East, Maryland based out of a small tack shop in the back of a private stable, selling primarily to the racetrack trade. In 1991, John Nunn, who had trained race horses for over 15 years, purchased the company and sold tack and other racing goods on the racetrack out of a lorry. Envisioning it to be more than a racing tack shop, he found a location outside North East, Maryland which could better be suited for growth into other disciplines. Within a short amount of time it wasn’t hard to realize that the track was a losing proposition and that he was situated in the heart of eventing county with Fair Hill just up the road, as well as Radnor and other fine events and facilities. At that time, there were very few retailers catering to the needs of eventers and John found the people to be honest, fun-loving and delightful. Focusing his energy and attention on eventer, John also developed a wholesale company to manufacture long-lasting leather goods best suited to the needs of his new market and to also be able to buy larger quantities and reduce his costs which in turn would allow him to sell good quality products at reasonable prices. Over the years the focus has never changed and John Nunn has gained a reputation for selling only products he knows and trusts and those that he would use himself. He has also made it his mantra to hire only keen sales associates that not just have the knowledge but also the experience to help guide your decision making if needed. Late in 2003 the whole operation was moved a few miles north to Oxford, Pa. to a building seven times larger than the previous one. This allowed Bit of Britain to be able to expand its inventory while streamlining the warehouse and shipping operations. Bit of Britain in its new headquarters consist of a large retail store and warehouse and also operates an active mobile store that travels to over 35 shows a year on the East Coast and Southeast. The company produces four retail catalogs per year and has a major web presence. Bit of Britain has gained a reputation over the years of selling good quality products you know you can count on.
