Michael McKenzie was born in Epsom England and began his career with horses as an apprentice jockey at the age of eleven. Four years later, he took his first professional ride. Due to increased weight at age seventeen, Michael became a steeplechase jockey for 2 years before serving with the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery. After his service, Michael resumed riding in England and France until an injury in 1969 forced him to retire. This is when he started his journey into the saddlery business.
