De Soto Sport, was founded by triathlete Emilio De Soto II, has been in existence since 1990. The Cuban-born (now American citizen) is the front man of the company. From the business and product development, to customer service, even to the photography, he is closely involved in every aspect of De Soto Sport. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA in Marketing, but credits his apparel knowledge to the experience he gained when he was sponsored by the founders of the ever successful companies, No Fear, Spy, and Prana. Their work ethics and over 25 consecutive seasons of triathlon competition have molded the company to what it is today. Aside from his love for the business, Emilio always makes time to workout. Still very competitive in triathlon, as well as other types of endurance events, Emilio is also a certified coach and fitness instructor. He enjoys traveling and spends a good part of each winter helicopter snowboarding in Canada. Says Emilio of the people who buy his products, Our customers are comprised of a small, sophisticated group of people who are very athletic, very driven professionally, and do their research before buying any product. They play as hard as they work, and they enjoy all the gifts this wonderful earth has to offer. We cater to these people because they are very much like us here at De Soto Sport. De Soto Sport is a small company consisting of 15 energetic employees. Some are triathletes, some are not. The work environment, though casual in attire and filled with music, is very creative, constructive, and busy. In December 2004, the De Soto Sport moved into a new location. It is a 30 year old building the company bought and has been remodeled on the inside with bright colors, nice lighting, fresh air from sliding glass doors (instead of air conditioning), and a south facing balcony to enjoy the mild year-around San Diego climate and ocean breezes.
